Clean red ribbed cloth boards with Hippo head with wide open mouth on cover, several animal tracks, and lettering in gold and black. Black lettering on spine. Light surface wear to spine edges; no fraying. Binding is firm; cracked endpaper hinges have been quite nicely repaired. Pages and edges are clean; previous owner name neatly printed in color pencil on front free endpaper. Frontispiece illustration of man with sloth with clean tissue guard. Twelve full-page illustrations from photographs by Elwin R. Sanborn, Official Photographer for the New York Zoological Society, plus seventy-two illustrations from drawings by the author. 274 pages. A fascinating book with wonderful drawings and photographs.
