Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. From the "Home and School Library." Red binding with gold lettering. Some wear at the edges and at the head and tail of the spine. Spine very sunfaded, and has a splotch of red paint near the bottom (libraries used to do it that way). Interior has an inscription on front paste-down, otherwise clean and tight. 387 pgs.

Paper covered boards. Autobiographical fiction, a boy at school. Published first in 1857, signed "An Old Boy". Parallels to Hughes later brought acknowledgment. Color frontispiece bears an artist's signature but not decipherable (a bird has upset a mortar & pestle, apparently stirring up an odor by looks of others) in lab setting. Published after death of Hughes (1896) and after a statue in his honor was erected at his school, notations in Strang's Introduction. Good. No dust jacket as issued. Foxing moderate. 0 0.0.
