Contemporary hand-written note tipped in before title of Volume I, pencil annotations on first leaves of each volume and signature of F. Bautros on titles. Cabanis's fundamental work of social ecology articulating the relationship between organisms and their environment, substantially revised and augmented for the first time. This fourth edition is the most complete of the editions published just after his death, containing an extensive list of authors cited, and fifty-seven page index.
