Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Hardcover, burgundy cloth lettered and decorated in gold, no dust-jacket. 176 pages. Catalog of the authors works appended. First edition. A prolific writer, Canning produced many works on British history, biography and literature. Born August 24, 1832, Canning was acquainted with personally with Dickens, having met him at Gadshill and had penned several other works about the author. The present title examines the novels, Oliver Twist, Old Curiosity Shop, Barnaby Rudge, Martin Chuzzlewit, David Copperfield and the unfinished Mystery of Edwin Drood. Previous owner's small round blind-stamp on front free end-paper and incidental wear to cloth. A clean, sound, square and unmarked copy. Very good. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Light spotting to top edge, small ink spatter to fore. POI to free page: 'Q. Crediton[?] 1917'. Prelims and adverts browned, text block toned, else, clean and tight: a tidy, robust copy of a scarce edition. In the UK, held by the five legal deposit libraries only.
