The picture style corresponds to Sendak's early work with straightforward renderings of warm and appealing people and settings. Hanrahan A16. Born in Poland, Hyman Chanover (1920-1998) was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York in 1945. He served as a rabbi for ten years, but ultimately worked for Jewish education with the American Association of Jewish Educators and other organizartions.
