Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Our Journey Around the World, Plus Glimpses of Life in Far off Lands As Seen Through a Woman's Eyes. Clark, Rev. Francis E. and Clark, Mrs. Harriet E. Hartford, CT: A. D. Worthington, 1895. First editions. Set of four books. Sold by subscription only. An unusual set, in that there were three books on offer from the salesman: the cheap, standard and deluxe versions. All three are included here, plus the salesman's sample book. The books are a record of a year-long journey, beginning in New York, to (among other places.) Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, Jan, China, Hong Kong, Ceylon, India, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Italy, France, England, and more. The deluxe edition is bound in full leather with scores of engravings and a large folding map, as does the standard edition. The "cheap" edition also has many illustration but not the folding map. The salesman sample book shows the cover options, has another copy of the folding map, and bits and pieces from various chapters and some illustrations. The main difference between the three seems to be the cover treatment. The standard version has gilt illustrations and titles on the front and on the spine, whereas the "cheap" edition has only gilt titles on the spine. All are in very good condition -- cheap edition has a spot on edge of front cover that is worn through, spine titles are faded on both cheap and standard, and deluxe is full leather with four raised bands and gilt titles in a maroon leather band on the spine. Overall, very good condition. A very unique set. Heavy, will require extra postage.
