"Buddy" Colette was a big figure in the the Los Angeles "bebop" movement. As a civil rights activist, he worked to desegregate the musicians union of Los Angeles. He was supported in this action by Frank Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole and saxophonist Benny Carter. His active support of Paul Robeson kept him from a number of venues.
