JOURNAL. Jacques Natteau, Roger Corbeau. (illustrator). - TRES BON ETAT.

Photography by Stanley Kubrick, Steven Borns, Roger Corbeau (illustrator). The two-volume set of Herman G. Weinberg's last published miscellany of criticism and memoir, separated from it's originally issued slipcase. These two copies belonged to film historian and critic James Monaco, inscribed by him on verso sides of upper covers top left corner to both books. Additionally, A Manhattan Odyssey is inscribed to Monaco on first page. Weinberg was a pioneer in sub-titling films expanding on the intention of the movioloa, a device designed to permit editors to view film during the editorial process. Very good books, lightly worn wraps, some discolorations and creasing present, sound copies Perfect-bound, octavo, pictorial wraps, 202 pp. (A Manhattan Odyssey), 90 pp. (Coffee, Brandy & Cigars).

Vintage double weight photograph from the 1938 film. A candid, on-the-set photograph by the film's credited still photographer, Roger Corbeau, capturing a scene in the town square between the town priest (Robert Vattier) and schoolteacher (Robert Bassac), with the camera crew just to the left, director Marcel Pagnol looking on in the center background, and several members of the cast waiting just outside the frame, to the far right. With Roger Corbeau's photo credit ("PHOTO ROGER CORBEAU") at the bottom left of the frame. With a stamp for the Cinemonde Archives on the verso. An extraordinary "fourth wall" shot, demonstrating at once the method and the magic of Pagnol's filmmaking, as well as his relentless interest in provincial life in France. Loosely based on Jean Giono's 1932 novel "Blue Boy," the film follows a small-town baker's wife who runs away with a handsome younger shepherd, leaving the baker heartbroken and unable to work. The villagers, who initially laugh at his cuckoldry, soon take the matter very seriously, and organize a plan to find the wife and to bring her back to her husband. 9.25 x 7 inches. About Fine.

Condition: Good. Original press kit for the French film with printed text and eight -13 x 18 cm. photos .The Trial (French: Le procès) is a 1962 drama film directed by Orson Welles, who also wrote the screenplay based on the 1925 posthumously published novel of the same name by Franz Kafka. Welles stated immediately after completing the film: "The film begins with Welles narrating Kafka's parable "Before the Law" to pinscreen scenes created by the artists Alexandre Alexeieff and Claire Parker. Anthony Perkins stars as Josef K., a bureaucrat who is accused of a never-specified crime, and Jeanne Moreau, Romy Schneider, and Elsa Martinelli play women who become involved in various ways in Josef's trial .Roger Corbeau, born November 20, 1908, in Haguenau, Alsace, was drawn to the cinema from a very young age. He moved to Paris in 1932 and began helping with props on film sets, first for Roger Richebé, then for Marcel Pagnol, who hired Corbeau as a movie stills photographer in 1933. They worked together for six years. With his demanding work ethic and talent, Corbeau quickly became a force in the French cinema. His photographs serve as a fervent tribute to the actors who left their mark on the medium from the 1930s to the 1980s. Corbeau took pictures on the sets of 160 films.

Vintage double weight photograph from the 1938 film. A candid, on-the-set photograph by the film's credited still photographer, Roger Corbeau, of a cafe scene featuring the film's principal character (actor Raimu), with the camera crew just to the left, in the shadows, the borders of the studio set clearly visible. With Roger Corbeau's photo credit ("PHOTO ROGER CORBEAU") at the bottom left of the frame. On the verso is a rubber stamp for the Cinemonde Archives. An extraordinary "fourth wall" shot, demonstrating at once the method and the magic of Pagnol's filmmaking, as well as his relentless interest in provincial life in France. In this film, a new baker, Aimable (Raimu) settles down in a small French village. His wife Aurelie is beautiful and much younger than he. She departs with a shepherd the night after Aimable produces his first breads. Aimable is so afflicted that he cannot work anymore. The villagers, who initially laugh at his cuckoldry, soon take the matter very seriously (they want the bread), and organize a plan to find Aurelie and to bring her back to the bakery and her husband. In a custom museum-quality frame, archivally mounted, with UV glass. 9.25 by 7 inches. Four tiny single pinholes at the corners, within the white marginal border. Near Fine overall.
