This Josephine book is in better shape than the other we have listed; the pictorial boards are fairly clean and have not been scribbled on. The spine is intact with faded titles. one letter on the front is rubbed Couple of former owner names are present. This title has 8 lovely coloured plates including the frontispiece and 12 black and white illustrations all captioned . Binding is still tight and there is not too much damage to the spine except for the usual softening and a little fraying at the ends. There are also 8 black and white illustrations. Foxing and grubby marks throughout but not on the plates which have been preserved remarkably.

A very good copy in very good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: price clipped, small chips to head of spine, maximum 5 mm (¼"), 25 mm (1") missing at tail of spine, 20 mm closed tear at head of spine, 10 mm closed tear to lower panel, bright and clean). Head and tail of spine very slightly worn, 2 tiny splits to lower hinge, lower corners slightly worn, tiny corner missing from cover, faint browning to endpapers, tiny closed tear to lower inner corner of title page, neatly repaired. A very good clean copy, lacking dustwrapper. The illustrated endpapers and the extra plate on the upper cover were omitted from later reprints. Publisher's green cloth with black titles to spine and upper, and decoration in black, white and pink to upper. Line-drawn illustrations quite tastefully and neatly coloured-in. Gently toned throughout. Spine rubbed and sunned, with some fraying to head and tail. Good.
FIRST EDITION (1920), dated from titles on dustwrapper, this is the 5th Josephine title, small 4to, 253 x 185 mm, 10 x 7 inches, cloth backed buff boards, large extra coloured plate onlaid, illustrated endpapers blue on white, 64 pages. 8 pretty colour plates and other black and white illustrations. Corners slightly worn, endpapers faintly browned, neat name on half-title, a few very pale fingermarks. Near Fine in very good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: 20 mm (1") missing at head of spine, 10 mm (½") missing at tail of spine, 20 mm chip at lower edge of upper panel, several short closed edge tears, slight creasing at top corner of upper panel, couple of tiny ink spots on lower panel). The illustration on the dustwrapper and upper cover does not appear inside the book. The illustrated endpapers were omitted from the reprints and the colour plate on the cover of the reprints is a repeat of one inside, not an extra plate. 5 Josephine titles only on lower panel of dustwrapper with our title listed as Josephine and Johnny.
