Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Rare review copy w/note inside from Craftsman House Publishing. Identical to the first edition. 4to. 132pp. Grey cloth w/silver lettering on spine, housed in an illustrated jacket. Profusely illustrated in colour and b/w throughout. In fine condition, would be "As New" were it not for a small crease on the inside of the jacket's front flap. First monograph committed to the artist, published two years prior to his untimely death. Crawford and Edgar examine Arkley's early influences - from punk music and feminism to the exuberant art scene of the 80s - whilst tracing his work's development from abstraction, to figurative iconography and figuration, all the way to his eventual focus on house paintings in the late '80s. Chapter headings include "Suburban Birth", "Muzak Mural", "Home Beautiful" and "Learning from Las Vegas". An extensive monograph on one of Australia's finest artists of the 20th century. Rare to find in such good condition.
