The history explores the Greeks in the Peloponnese, Attica, and the different Greek islands. His history also explores the Persian Wars, peace time, Athens' rise to power, the Peloponnesian War, the Decelean War, Athens' disastrous expedition to Sicily, Spartan supremecy, and later Greek history up to the rise of Macedonia. A Very Good set with a bookplate on each front pastedown and some pencil annotation to the margins; cloth on the spines shows minor wear.

Condition: Very good. - Octavo, 8-1/2 inches high by 5-1/2 inches wide. Five volumes uniformly bound in black cloth titled in gilt on the spines. The covers are lightly rubbed and soiled with some minor staining. The heads of the spines are slightly chipped. 516 pages; 675 pages; 598 pages; 530 pages; and 542 pages. There is minor dampstaining to the bottom front corner of the first few pages of the second, third, and fifth volumes, and the bottom corner of the first few pages of the second volume are creased. There is a long tear along the front edge of page 53 of the first volume, without loss. Very good. From the library of Jerome Leo Marx, of Albany, N.Y., with his book label on the front pastedown of each volume.
