Binding has soil and minor wear; corners bumped; pictorial free front endpaper has former ownership signature of young Dorothy Noyes (which might be the future folklorist); several pages have stains, as if Dorothy was eating ice cream while reading the book; book also has foxing; one leaf at back has closed tears; reading copy of the first American edition. 238 p., illustrated. The front cover's pasted on illustration is bright and fresh! Top edge has several tiny stains near the foredge. Spine ends and flap fold tips of jacket are missing pieces. Edges of jacket have small tears, creases, and have portions of chipping. Spine panel and flap folds are sunned, with matching toning to the inside of jacket. Edges of the spine panel and the flap folds are rubbed. Flap folds have many tiny holes. Spine edge of front panel has a 1" tear toward the spine heel.
