Condition: VG. c. 1845. Written in pencil on piece of grey paper, 1x4" . Beneath signature in a different hand in ink is written " Deaf Dumb and Blind". VG . Guaranteed original. Bridgman, born in Hanover, New Hamsphire in 1829, was the first deaf and blind American to gain a significant education, a good fifty years before Helen Heller. She used to earn money by crocheting small doilies and other objects , attaching her name to each product made. This was likely one of those attached autographs.

Bold portrait of Bridgman, with her eyes covered by a narrow cloth bandana, is about 4 x 4 inches and appears on piece of paper 10x6 inches with text on both sides giving a short biography of Bridgman. Attached to page is original printed signature of Bridgman in pencil in her own hand (guaranteed original.) Portrait has initials of "SW" on bottom left and J. W. Orr, NY on bottom right side. Bridgman was quite a celebrity even drawing visits from overseas from men like Charles Dickens.
