Presumed first ed.; 278 p., plus series page, clean and unmarked anywhere on strong paper only faintly age-toned; frontis. photo-portrait of Charles Dickens, and many beautiful ill. taken after original engravings; binding firm; in absence of d.j. the red boards with stamped ill. in tonalities of black, green and yellow and white lettering, are faded, smudged, and quite sunned on spine.Cirners are lightly bumped and there is pronounced rubbing at crown of spine.

Condition: Fair. No Edition Remarks. 64 pages. No dust jacket. Tan decorated paper with an illustration pasted on. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Hinges are cracked. Some occasional moderate cracking to gutters throughout, binding is shaky. Boards have heavy edge-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Book has a slight forward lean. Minor fraying to cloth at spine ends. Splits and loss to spine.

Boards are sound but have edge wear and some bumping. Front ned papers are lightly toned. Gift inscription and tipped in colour plate on end paper. Beautiful colour plates throughout (11 of them) in superb condition, though the text pages are slightly foxed due to the different nature of the paper on which they are printed.
