Soft Cover. Condition: Good+. First Edition. 179 pp, 10 3/4" H. "(O)utlines the histories of the Canadian Regiments in the dates of organization, change of designation, amalgamation, disbanding and conversion. The Regiments of The Royal Canadian Infantry Corps, Cavalry and The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps are included in the Guide. Regiments of the Royal Regiments of Canadian Artillery are included in the Guide only when they were organized as Infantry Regiments and later converted to artillery. The arrangement of the Guide is alphabetical by the designation of the Regiment. The Guide for a Regiment is followed by a listing of its regimental histories, a term that has been used in its widest sense. The bibliography includes not only publications about a Regiment but also the Regiment's publications. The compiler has thus included manuals and periodicals. Three bibliographical sections and indexes close this publication. 'Formations' is a bibliography of the Canadian First division and publications concerned with a Command area and more than one Regiment. 'World War I' and 'World War II' are bibliographies of the units organized for these wars." Interior - soft bump at top/bottom corner of text block - small crease at top corner of approx. first 20 pages, soft crease at fore-edge of pages 9 to 12. Exterior - light browning to edges of text block, edges of covers and on spine; soft corner creases on covers; soft crease down front cover near spine - migrates into first few pages; tiny light stains on bottom of text block; small light soiling mark at top edge of front cover.

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition, First Printing. xiv, 310 pages. Bindery sticker inside back cover. Minor wear and soiling to cover. This copy appears to have been bound in hardcover in 1968. It apparently originally only came out in soft cover. Minor soiling on a few pages noted. Includes Foreword, by Major General Albert C. Smith, Chief of Military History. Preface, Table of Contents, and General Works Analyzed or Indexed in the Checklist. This book is the culmination of four preliminary checklists produced since 1947 in approximately the same manner. It represents an expansion in time coverage and an improvement in format that will simplify the task of locating material on a specific unit. In so far as possible, the Office of the Chief of Military History has provided assistance on certain problems. The demand in Special Services libraries world wide for unit history material by military personnel of all ranks has been continual. As a result, The Adjutant General's Office, particularly its Library and Service Club Branch, Special Services Division, has been the motivating force behind the publication of this bibliography. The scope of this list includes unit histories from the end of the Civil War to the Korean conflict. Air Force and Navy histories are omitted. National Guard and militia histories are not included unless the history concerns a period when the unit was Federalized. Charles Emil Dornbusch (1907-1990) was the Vedder Research Library's first librarian and the moving force behind its official creation. A man of countless unique talents and interests, he has been described as a librarian, bibliographer, writer, publisher, bookseller, and member of numerous learned societies. Mr. Dornbusch attended night school to attain his college education - at the same time working at the New York Public Library where he quickly became full-time staff. He ended up staying at the New York Public Library the entire 38 years of his career. Mr. Dornbusch went on to further achievement pursuing his passion for Military History. He had served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II with the 409th Infantry Regiment in Europe, although his interest in the field may have predated his service. During his service to the library he traveled extensively both in the US and abroad for the Acquisition Program. His specialty was Military. His four volume Military Bibliography of the Civil War is now a standard reference guide in the U.S. Many of his other checklists and bibliographies have also become standard for works up to the time his compilations were published. In his later years, Mr. Dornbusch went on to write an authoritative bibliography on the American Civil War, as well as numerous unit histories focusing the Armed Forces of the United States and the Canadian Military in both the 19th and 20th centuries. He was genuinely prolific and several of his works remain highly regarded among scholars today.
