Three Volumes, with volume I being in acceptable condition due to detached but present front and rear boards and loss to spine. Volume II and III in largely good condition, wear and rubbing to board edges. Text blocks of all volumes sound, foxing to edges. Contents clear. A nice reading set.

Full-Leather. Condition: Fair/Good. No Jacket. 1st Thus. A most interesting copy of this work. Frontispiece; title page; contents; Volume I pp 1 - 398; Volume II pp 1 - 455; Continuation pp iii + 1 - 304. There are five maps - of England and Wales; France; Germany; Ireland; Scotland; and Spain and Portugal. There are 31 plates in all in addition to the maps. There is scattered foxing throughout. One or two page corners are folded over; there are two or three tears to pages with no significant loss. The upper board is detached. This volume has been used as a kind of Family Bible for the Taylor Family. On the ffep and one of the back endpapers, there are listed the names of 20 members of the Taylor family, born betwen 1794 and 1841, together with the dates of marriage of many, and the dates of death of a few. Please note that this book weighs well over 1 kg., the ABEBooks assumed default weight, so postage at cost will be greater than that quoted.

Embellished with a variety of beautiful engravings including a map of 'England and Wales from the best Authorities' preceding chapter one and a maps of 'Scotland from the best Authorities' to frontispiece to volume two. The contents are as follows: Volume one contains a comprehensive history from The ancient Britons before the arrival of the Romans to The Reign of Charles I. Volume two contains: The Commonwealth to The Reign of George III. Oliver Goldsmith (1730 - 1774) was an Anglo-Irish novelist, playwright and poet. Previous owner's ink stamps to front endpapers. In a contemporary calf binding. Externally, worn with front board detached, rear held by cords only, wear and slight loss to extremities, rubbing and marks to boards. Internally, text block firmly bound. Bright but with slight scattered foxing and handling marks and the odd slight tidemarks. Closed tear to gutter to one plate and some marginal chipping in places. Good Only. book.
