Couverture rigide. - Chez l'auteur, Paris 1765, In-folio (25x34cm), relié. - Edition originale de ce recueil de 75 planches dont 4 titres gravés : Manière d'accoupler les colonnes et pilastres de l'ordre dorique (un titre et 11 planches - le catalogue in fine annonce 6 planches) ; Parallele de grands entablements et de charpentes à l'italienne (un titre et 8 planches - le catalogue in fine en annonce 9) ; Suite de croisée des plus beaux palais de Rome (un titre en 8 planches) ; Les Eglises des stations de Rome (un titre et 10 planches) ; Suite de ruines d'architecture (33 planches, le catalogue en annonce 24). Les différents exemplaires présents dans les collections publiques ou sur le marché sont tous différents et ne contiennent pas les mêmes parties, et parfois pas le même nombre de planches par parties. Dumont proposait à son domicile plusieurs recueils dont l'ensemble est proposé à la fin du volume, soit 230 planches contenues dans 14 collections. Les amateurs choisissaient donc certains titres et en écartaient d'autres et constituaient ainsi leur propre volume. En outre, certains titre de ce volume ne sont pas présents dans le catalogue. La suite de ruine d'architecture contient dans cet exemplaire 33 planches alors que la table en annonce 24. En fin de compte cette partie contient aussi Vases et fontaines de feu M. Challes avec 3 planches, cette caractéristique est partagée avec l'exemplaire de la bibliothèque nationale. Les planches en sus proviennent d'autres titres du catalogue, et si on considère plusieurs exemplaires différents on constate que les planches étaient vendus avec un certain désordre. Cet exemplaire contient une partie avec un frontispice et 10 planches dont le titre n'est pas présent dans le catalogue et dont l'auteur n'est plus Dumont lui-même mais Israel Henriet, intitulé : Les Eglises des stations de Rome. On ne peut savoir si ce recueil était vendu par Dumont ou si l'amateur le possédait déjà en l'intégrant aux titres de Dumont. Reliure en pleine basane brune d'époque. Dos à nerfs orné. Pièce de titre en maroquin rouge. Manques aux mors en tête. Mors inférieur ouvert en queue. Frottements. Estafilades sur les plats. Une large tache sombre sur chacun des plats. 2 coins émoussés. Timbre sec sur les 2 premières pages de titre : G. Lageat. Architecte à Lannion. Certains recueils, notamment les premiers ont les planches au format paysage, les autres au format classique. L'ensemble des planches est constitué d'eaux-fortes et de burins sur cuivre, gravées par Dumont, Charpentier et Germain, les planches des Eglises des stations de Rome par Israel Henriet. De nombreuses planches portent la date de 1765. Les eaux-forte de la partie Ruines d'architecture sont particulièrement belle et très proches dans l'esprit des planches de Piranese. Exceptionally nice copy with broad margins, the plates printed on thick paper. Interesting convolute of three illustrated mid-18th century Italian books on classical antiquity and architecture. Universal Cat. of Books on Art; pp. 1285 ; pp. 1604 & pp. 2055 . Only book (3) in Cicognara (N°4103). Both the Universal Cat. & Cicognara indicate 22 plates for book (3). Only one copy in a German library (Erlangen-Nürnberg University) indicating ca. 25 plates. The index calls for a title and 29 plates, our copy has a title + 26 plates. This third book, rather a collection of engravings, is very rare. The engraver Valesi worked at onetime together with the Veronese painter Bernardo Belotti.
