First printed in 1920 this Haggadah contains the traditional text with Song of Songs, Isaac Abarbanel's "Zevah Pesach" commentary as well as the commentaries of Mahzor Vitry, Kol Bo, Shibolei Haleket, Rabbi Judah Loew, Rabbi Moses Alsheikh, Rabbi Isaiah Horowitz Halevi, Rabbi Jacob Emden and Rabbi Elijah of Vilna. Spine slightly sunned. Beautifully illustrated with b/w drawings. Text in Hebrew. Covers lightly stained. Head and tail of spine bumped. Endpapers sunned. Overall in good condition. Lola (Leon David Azriel) was a Russian born American Jewish cartoonist who emigrated to the United States in 1908. He studied at Columbia University and the National Academy of Designs. His work appeared in a number of Yiddish newspapers and the English language American Hebrew.

Hardcover. Condition: fair. First edition. 4to. (3), 495pp. Original black pebble cloth with a blind stamped border and stamped gold lettering and star of David on spine. Decorative green endpapers. Illustrated title page with English and Hebrew title pages. A reference book on biblical terminology that is part of a series of volumes on various topics relating to Judaism. Author's introduction refers to the founding of the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus, framing it in messianic terms. [Text is in Hebrew.] Edges and corners show signs of wear. Tail of spine is bumped. Inner binding starting and back endpaper is cracked. Overall in fair to good condition. Julius (Judah David) Eisenstein was a late 19th and early 20th century Polish-American Jewish scholar. He established America's first society for the Hebrew language, the Shocharei Sfat Ever (Merchants of the Hebrew Language) and was also the first to translate into Hebrew and Yiddish the Constitution of the United States. He is best known for his series of Ozar anthologies on various topics relating to the Bible, Talmud and Jewish history. In addition to this, he authored over 150 articles for the Jewish encyclopedia.

Judah David Eisenstein (1854?1956) , "U.S. Encyclopedist, anthologist, and author. Eisenstein was born in Mezhirech, Poland, and in 1872 immigrated to the United States, where he became a successful coat manufacturer. He was a founder of the first Hebrew society in the United States, Shoharei Sefat Ever (1880) , and one of its first Hebrew writers. Although he also undertook translations, e. G. , in 1891 publishing the text of the American constitution in Hebrew and Yiddish, his fame rests on his anthologies, for which he earned the epithet 'master of treasuries' (as all his anthologies bore the title Otsar, 'Treasury'). He published a Jewish encyclopedia in ten volumes with the assistance of experts from various countries, Otsar Yisrael (1907-13).
