Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Frederick A. Stokes Company, NY. Only biography written on this famous general who served on Grant's Staff. After the war he served Grant as his personal secretary when Grant was president. Porter also wrote the classic work Campaiging with General Grant . He raised the funds to build Grant's tomb and was Ambassador to France from 1897 to 1905. The biography is written by Porter s daughter. Very good copy of the first edition in a good- dust jacket protected by mylar. The book has minor shelf wear, a prior owner's label on the inside front cover and a little discolorization on the spine from the back of the dust jacket. The dust jacket has edge wear, wear to the spine and the top 1/2 inch of the spine is missing. 390 pages.
