Condition: Very Good. The pages are a little tanned; the first and last pages are lightly foxed. There is a short closed tear on the first end paper and the hinge at that point is slightly cracked. The pages are otherwise clean and un-thumbed.

Bumping to the extremities has resulted in loss of paper, with lighter bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Joints and head of the boards are sunned. Light marks to the boards and spine. Small bump to the tail of the rear board. Front hinge is starting, rear hinge is strained. Scattered spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good. book.

Interno in forte carta scollato dal dorso, ma integro e pulito. EMMET SHERWOOD, disegnatrice di libri ma anche di tappezzerie, stoffe, murali ecc. Fece sensazione un suo disegno di bimba che legge, apparso in Harper's Bazaar nel 1889, tema allora ritenuto raro! (Cfr. wiki). Ma anche il nostro libro esordisce con la dedica "to my little sisters" e la sorella maggiore (la pittrice) accanto alla sorellina che legge il libro! Delizioso.

All but four in the original turquoise printed outer wrappers with the subscriber's small name and address label on the front wrap. Includes an 1887 index printed on one uncut octavo sheet. Scattered soiling and chipping to the edges of the wraps, some are split along the spine folds, a few issues lack the rear wrap, very good. A nice collection of Harper's weekly children's magazine, celebrated for publishing the work of America's best illustrators and writers of young adult fiction. Included in this set are the first printed appearances of: "The Three Fortunes" and "The Princess on the Glass Hill," written and illustrated by Howard Pyle, "Five Shares in the Fresh-Air Fund" by James Otis, Rosina Emmet Sherwood's illustrations of "Von Nipkin's Defeat" by Boudinot Colt, and W.A.
