El presente libro aporta una contribución notabilísima y muy necesaria al estudio de la novela española del pasado siglo y del actual. En efecto, el profesor Eoff adopta un punto de vista que no es usual en nuestra crítica literaria y que puede tal vez orientarla en gran parte. No se propone un nuevo análisis formal de las obras que estudia, ni tampoco determinar su contexto histórico, sino iluminar las ideas que yacen en su trasfondo.
