Foot of spine is good, gilt emblem of the 19th to the spine is sound; gilt titles a little faded. Other that the spine, a tight, solid , attractive copy. Weight, 955g. Hard Cover. Condition: VG+. An excellent copy. Dust Jacket Condition: None. First. The 19th is a Fox's Fighting 300 unit which is a Union unit that suffered the most casualties during the War. This was a real fighting unit. For example it assaulted Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg where it lost eight color bearers and 104 officers and men. At Antietam it fought in the West Woods and sustained heavy casualties. At Gettysburg it it was heavily engaged near the "Clump of Trees" capturing four Confederate flags and losing nearly 50 per cent of its numbers. Dornbusch I-218. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 19th Massachusetts was organized at Lynnfield, Massachusetts and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on August 28, 1861 under the command of Colonel Edward Winslow Hinks. Assigned to the Army of the Potomac, the 19th Mass fought in all the major engagements in the Eastern Theater and has been identified as one of the FOX 300 Fighting Regiments. This is a fine, detailed history of this important regiment. Here in very nice condition.
