When he died, in 1897, Henry Adams said of him that after 35 years of friendship ".I have never found myself obliged to change any of the opinions he taught me to hold, or to correct any of the rules I got from him." (Letter of 16 Oct., 1897, in Letters., 1892-1918, ed. Ford). On mourning paper, one sheet folded to make four pages, two are used. Folded as though for mailing, mounting adhesions to p.4, else Very Good.

Kirby St. E.C.), inscription dated 1869 on back of ffep, one small marginal note in pencil, otherwise text is very clean.
