Published by Moses Thomas, Philadelphia, 1814
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First Edition. Philadelphia: Moses Thomas, 1814. First edition, 1814. Very worn. Full calf with gilt ruled spine, black spine label, (xvi, 510). Double ex-library, first sold as a duplicate from the New York State Library, acquired by the Forbes Library in Northampton, MA, and again deacquisitioned. Rather rough condition but with pages quite clean (little foxing for age) and free from chips or tears. This book is supposed to have a frontis portrait; this copy does not but there are no signs of removal. Front hinge broken, old leather spine repairs, spine label mostly missing. The story of a British actor who lived and travelled in the United States during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, written ostensibly as an apology for his less-than-virtuous life. However, the book has greater modern interest as a personal travel journal, for the author travelled extensively through the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states during that interesting period of American history. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo (8.75" x 5.25" or 22.5 cm x 13 cm).
