Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. BUENOS AIRES. Intendencia Municipal. Comisión de Estética Edilicia. Proyecto orgánico para la urbanicación del municipio. El plano regulador de la capital federal. Buenos Aires, Peuser, 1925. Folio. 427 + [4]p including index. With 8 folding plans (2 coloured); 79 fullpage (21 coloured) & 70 textual illustrations.Title in red & black with small oval arms of Buenos Aires. Quarter calf; marbled boards. Masterplan for Buenos Aires with schemes for developing the municipal centre. The 'Comisión de Estética Edilicia' was headed by Dr Carlos M.Noel, but J.C.N.Forestier, the renowned French landscape architect, was largely instrumental in drawing up the plan, between 1923 and 1924. Forestier created the 8-km Avenida Costanera along the River Plate, and supplied plans and extensive planting recommendations for parks, avenues and open spaces; they are illustrated here and described at length. Forestier (1861-1930) had worked with Adolphe Alphand on Haussmann's transformation of Paris; commissions later took him to Spain and the Americas, notably that of Arab Spain, where water and 'architectural' shape in planting were paramount. Le Corbusier was later to be attracted by the possibilities of Buenos Aires. Occasional minimal traces of foxing, 1 folding plate stained, otherwise clean. See Oxford Companion to Gardens, 'Forestier', p195.
