Title in red and black, with engraved vignettes. Theological seminary stamps. Lampe's commentary on the Gospel of St. John. Friedrich Adolph Lampe was a German Piestist theologian. Lampe was a pioneer in Reformed church music and hymns. One of Lampe's most important theological innovations was the introduction of discussion groups after service where congregation members would share their reactions to the sermon and the experience in their faith. These meetings became an important feature of revivalist Evangelical movements (including Methodism). - Bebbington, D.W.; Evangelicalism in Modern Britain. A history from the 1730s to the 1980s. Unwin Hyman, 1989. In his work Geheimniss des Gnadenbundes, Lampe established the first system of ethics derived from Federal or Covenant theology.
