Condition: Good. no date. owner signed in 1913 which looks like date of publication or near to. no place or publisher given although publisher logo is printed (looks like a Capital "M" intersected by an upside down "U" with a tiny "o" beneath.) Book is numbered as "Nr. 1808" on rear panel. Hardcover. 4to. 10 heavy thick cardboard pages with pale blue cloth spine. fully covered with lovely chromolithograph illustrations with German text. A simple instruction book for young children. Owner signed. Good, cover tips rounded; binding secure; book is worn but no major faults.
Condition: Good. No publisher, no place, no date given (nineteenth century). Tiny printed number "2242" on lower left of front. Attractive chromolithography. In German. Octavo, 8pp., 5 pp. in color, wraps with all pages of same heavy stock paper. Good, general overall wear but no major defects. Picture available on request.

Hardcover. 4to., 19pp. of which 4 are full page chromolithographs, full grey cloth with mounted full page color illustrations on both front and rear covers. Good, inner hinges cracked, somewhat worn overall but intact and attractive, Heft III only. Pictures available on request.

"Pages" are thick heavy cardboard beautiful full color chromolithographs on both sides. Black cloth spine. Full color chromolithograph piccture of two young girls on front board. There is a printed number on front cover in lower right corner: 3122. On lower margin of front cover is name Myra von Grossvater which may be printed or written, we cannot tell. In the original pictorial dustwrapper, unclipped (priced $2.50 at base of front flap), lightly rubbed at extremities; Very Good. A late work by the Viennese Jewish author, best-known for his classic children's story Bambi (1923). The current work was written from exile in Switzerland following Hitler's annexation of Austria.

With 3 copper plates (1 folding) by P.L.Crusius, one serving as frontispiece. Typographical ornaments. Contemporary half sheep, gilt; worn. Enlarged third edition of a complete German translation of Magazin des enfans containing 29 dialogues between a governess and seven young ladies combining instruction, entertainment and moral teaching. The subjects are the Bible, history, geography and the natural sciences. The frontispience shows the governess with two young girls; the folding plate illustrates the architectural wonders of the ancient world. The authoress (1711-80) wrote novels and juvenile literature. The translator, Schwabe (1714-84), a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences, was renowned for German renderings of influential French and English texts including Swift. This early childrens book was inspired by Le Magazin (first published in London in 1756) , a bestseller of juvenile literature in the manner of Sarah Fielding s The Governess . Some faint age toning, otherwise in very good condition.
