Volume II: Mainly Cultural Aspects. xxx 627pp XC plates illustrating paintings, architectural forms, epigraphy, and coinage. Each volume seperately indexed. Bound in black boards, volume 1 has its jacket, volume 2 is missing its jacket. Fold-out topographical map of Deccan in rear pocket of volume 1, the maps shows some light edge chipping buit is in nice shape overall. The jacket is worn and show shows some soiling. Uncommon work. Part of a comprehensive history of Deccan which was divided into three two-book parts: Ancient Period, Medieval Period, and Modern Period. Volume I deals mainly with the political history of the regiion including internal administration, civil and military organisation, inter-state relations in peace and war, and relations with non-Deccan powers in India and abroad. Volume II deals with culutural aspects including language and literature, the Sufi movement, painting, architecturee, epigraphy, calligraphy, coinage, postal communications, laws, and authorities.

His work for the preservation of monuments and exploration and excavation of relics of ancient civilisations was well received not only in India but also in Europe and the U.S.
