Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. 16 pages; Clean and secure in original bright yellow wrappers. OCLC 53156728 Illustrated with three b&w reproductions and three colour reproductions (one double page). List of 30 works exhibited; Chronology of the artist's life and exhibition history; List of Works in Public Collections; and Bibliography. Charles Beauchamp (1949- present) was influenced by the artistic culture of the 1960s and 1970s. After studying at Chelsea Art School, Charles Beauchamp visited the USA and Canada before continuing his studies in Paris at Hayter's Atelier 17. Some of Beauchamp's work shows tragic scenes in which grimacing beings - half-man, half-beast - intermingle. Beauchamp s early exhibition work included the Third British International Print Biennale (1972), the First British International Drawing Biennale (1973), and the Tokyo International Biennale (1974). Beauchamp has works in collections such as the Hirschorn Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Art Institute of Chicago, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, etc. Gimpel Fils is a London art gallery previously located at 30 Davies Street in Westminster just off Grosvenor Square and has since moved. The gallery was founded by Charles and Peter Gimpel, sons of the celebrated Parisian art dealer, René Gimpel, author of the Diary of an Art Dealer. Throughout its history it has maintained a commitment to contemporary British and International art. Gimpel Fils was founded in November 1946. The first exhibition, Five Centuries of French Painting, was based on the small part of René Gimpel's collection that had been sent to London before the Second World War. The bulk of his stock was lost in Paris.[4]During the 1950s and 60s Gimpel Fils was highly influential in its association with the avant-garde. It supported modern British artists, including those of the St Ives School, as well as rising American artists and French abstract painters of the School of Paris. Gimpel Fils represented many of the major artists of the time, including Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. Nicholson moved to Gimpel Fils from the Lefevre Gallery and stayed until the early 1960s. In supporting the next generation of artists emerging in this period it gave first exhibitions to Lynn Chadwick, Anthony Caro, Peter Lanyon and Alan Davie, while also being associated with a number of other British artists, including Louis le Brocquy, Ivon Hitchens, Gillian Ayres, Bernard Meadows, Kenneth Armitage and Robert Adams. From France Gimpel Fils represented the likes of Marie Laurencin, Pierre Soulages, Nicolas de Staël, Serge Poliakoff, Fahrelnissa Zeid, and Yves Klein, as well as working with American artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis and Larry Rivers, who had his first London exhibition at the gallery in 1962.

Paperback. Condition: VG. Text free of underlining, writing and highlighting. Very nice clean copy. Catalogue of exhibition held April 2-May 9, Gimpel Fils, London, May 25-June 30, Technical College, Barrow-in-Furness, May 25-June 30, the Brewery Arts Centre. Introduction: Michael Watt This publication coincides with installations by Andrea Fisher at GimpelFils gallery in London and in Barrow-in-Furness, and an exhibition of her work at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal. The difference between these locations introduces recurrent themes in her work: the rhetoric of powerthatconnectsthe heroic confidence of high modernism to the representation of mastery in war photography, and the cool pleasures of an aesthetic which can create an equal spectacle from both sleek beauty and horrifying conflict.
