First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. Tall octavo. Foxing on the foredge, modest rubbing on the boards, very good or better lacking the presumed dust jacket. Gershon Legman's copy with his owner name ("G. Legman 1951") on the front fly, and his neat, copious notes in the text throughout. Mencken called this dictionary "The best thing of its kind I have seen." Unusual for a slang dictionary is an English-Underworld section in which one can find the underworld equivalent of a common English expression. A wonderful copy with Legman's notes on nearly every page.
