Leather. Condition: Good Only. None (illustrator). A collection of the poetry of Thomas Gray, with an extensive memoir of his life. Second edition. Edited by W. Mason and with an additional memoir of the poets life. With an engraved frontispiece of Gray. Thomas Gray was a poet born in 1716. Publishing only 13 poems during his lifetime he gained great popularity, and was famously offered to position of Poet Laureate, which he declined. A lovely edition of Gray's poetical works ideal for those with an interest in the poetry of the 18th century. In a tree calf binding. Externally, sound, though with some wear to the extremities, including some rubbing. Front joint has failed, with board detached, and rear joint is tender. Small institutional label to front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just a few instances of foxing. Good Only. book.

Slight loss to the tail corner to the rear blank and offsetting to the title page to 'Volume I' and offsetting to the rear blanks to 'Volume II'. Very Good. book.

Thomas Gray was an English poet, letter-writer and classical scholar. His best known work is his Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. In quarter calf bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with minor rubbing to the spine labels. Small amount of rubbing to the paper covered boards. Internalyl, all volumes are firmly bound. Title page to volume IV has signs of repair at bottom. Pages are slightly age toned with the odd spot throughout. Worming to the top margin of volume II for the last 50 pages, not affecting text. Worming to the bottom margins of the contents pages and to the final forty pages of volume four, not affecting text. Good. book.
