Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. (1956), small 8vo, xiii, 144pp, index, four illustrations. Exlib with catalog number at spine, and stamp at top page edges, pocket at rear and other markings including title-page. From the preface: "In 1640, within ten years of their arrival in America, the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay produced their first book and printed it on their own press. The volume was the Bay Psalm Book-a literary monument of the cultural and religious aspirations of the early settlers of the country. The work entitled, "The Whole Booke of Psalms Faithfully Translated into English Metre, was published in seventeen hundred copies of which only eleven survived-five complete and the others lacking a varying number of leaves. The fascination of the book was dramatized with uncommon force when, in January, 1947, a copy sold in New York for $151,000, the highest price ever paid for a volume at a public sale. It was also the highest price paid anywhere for a book in the English language, a copy of the First Folio of Shakespeare being a poor second at $77,000. This essay tries to correct some of the errors that have grown up around this famous book.".

Hard Cover. Condition: Fine-. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine-. No date of publication is listed, 126 pages, with an essay by Austin Warren. "By virtue of his Anglophilism and Anglo-Catholicism, Thomas William Parsons was an alien to the place in which he lived; and his absorbed and single devotion to Dante symbolized his withdrawal from his time. His own poetry, too, had its affiliation with vanished or vanishing idioms; in his satires, his theory of translation and his lyric style, he was a conscientious survivor of an earlier day."
