Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. The binding of pale yellow cloth is clean with no bumping and tight, square corners. Strong gilt lettering to the spine. The contents are extremely bright and clean and, other than a small inked signature to the front pastedown, there are no ownership inscriptions or any other markings. The strikingly illustrated dust jacket is unclipped (21s.net), with a minor loss to the rear face and about a quarter inch to the spine bottom. It has now has been protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "There are thoughtful passages about the effects of our civilisation on tribal society and about the shortcomings of our much-vaunted system of law as applied to people to whom very little of it makes any sense at all. Christopher Harwich is no uncritical law-enforcer and his attitude towards prisons, witchcraft and spear-blooding warriors reveals him to be humane, tolerant, open-minded and full of understanding for Africans caught up in an alien system of life and law which often contradicts their deepest convictions".
