Seller: Ebeth & Abayjay Books, Lima, OH, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Violet Maxwell (illustrator). The Saintons Go to Bethlehem was written by Helen Hill and illustrated by Violet Maxwell (music adapted fron old provencal folk songs with accompaniments by Lois Hutton). The book was published by The Macmillan Company in 1935 and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. It's an ex-library copy and only in good condition with library markings, library wear including occasional soiling (very little in this book) where little hands may have not been completely clean when turning the page. I guess this indicates the book was popular . . . and does add a touch of nostalgia. It has no dust jacket, and has been rebound by the library in nice, clean, sturdy boards. The book is 8 5/8" by 10 1/2" and has 64 pages with an Index of Songs and both black-and-white and color illustrations throughout. "A beautiful holiday gift book of songs and verses - and a book to be welcomed by the many schools and clubs and libraries that plan Christmas exercises." Thank you!.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Helen Hill, Violet Maxwell (illustrator). 1st Edition. The Little Lost Shepherd was written and illustrated by Helen Hill and Violet Maxwell. The book was published by The Macmillan Company in 1931 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. It's an ex-library copy in good condition and has no dust jacket. The book has library markings and the library wear from many children's hands having turned the pages. Nevertheless the book should be quite readable for many more years, and Hill and Maxwell's black-and-white illustrations are still neat. The book is 6" by 8 1/4" and has 163 pages . . . charm and nostalgia. "The story gives a charming picture of a present day peasant life which keeps so many of the old customs and occupations of the past." Thank you!.
