Hardcover. Condition: Near Very Good. First edition thus. Slim 8vo. 1-28 pp. Green cloth with gold lettering on the front board. Illustrated with a full-page photograph of Hirooka, and with a facsimile of a title page at the beginning of the volume. This volume contains excerpts from a weekly journal that comprise the lifestory of Asa-Ko Hirooka, a Japanese business woman and advocate for women's education. Asa-Ko witnessed revolutionary changes in Japanese society and helped to found institutions of higher learning for women. She died in the 1919 Influenza epidemic. A bump to the top two corners, a split developing in the gutter but the binding remains secure.
