Large format hardcover, no dustjacket, all edges gilt, Volume 1 only, no publishing date, circa 1890, illustrated throughout, including color maps, contents include Early Missions in India, Danish North America, The Moravians of Greenland, The Gospel in China, etc, etc, the red cloth cover has edge-wear at the spine-ends and corners, short cracks to the front hinge but all pages are secure, foxing to the blank front and rear end-papers, minimal soiling in the margins of some of the pages, all contents are in nice shape; 288 pages.

Half-title, portrait frontispiece, illustrated. 239pp. This is the journal of Mr. Robert Gouger that his daughter Adelaide carefully preserved all that remained of his journals and paper relating to South Australia, and the important part he took in its foundation, and, no authentic record has hitherto been published of his life work. A very good copy bound in maroon cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, previous owner's name scratched out, bookseller's ticket to front pastedown, just a bit of toning to page edges.

Ferguson 10475 (noting only the frontispiece portrait). Provenance: James Howard Johnson (1875-1947, a great-grandson of George Fife Angas), with his armorial bookplate. A couple of marginal notes in pencil are presumably in his hand.
