Book First Edition
Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Various (illustrator). First Edition. THE CITY OF LONDON THROUGH ARTISTS' EYES. J. L. Howgego. Introduction by Nikolaus Pevsner. Collins, London. 1969 First edition 64pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy is in fine unmarked condition in a fine unclipped dust wrapper. The City of London has inspired many artists throughout the last three hundred years and still continues to do so. Nearly all these artists, Canaletto in particular, have paid tribute to the master genius of Sir Christopher Wren, who's St Paul's dominates the City scene. Canaletto's influence can be traced for more than a generation but in the nineteenth century one can diagnose the romantic movement, while in Cruikshank and Dore we feel a certain pride in London's tremendous vitality and growth. This book is lavishly illustrated in colour and black and white and includes the work of over fifty three artists. Ref N1.
