Hardcover. Condition: New. Paperback. Oblong 4to. (24 x 27 cm). In English and Turkish. 160 p., ills. We elsewhere.= Biz baska yerde. [Biennial catalogue]. We, Elsewhere, a new work by Inci Eviner will be presented in the Pavilion of Turkey at the 58th Venice Biennale, to be held from May 11 through November 24, 2019. Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) and sponsored by Fiat, the Pavilion of Turkey will be curated by Zeynep Öz and located at Sale d Armi, which is one of the main exhibition venues of the Venice Biennale. We, Elsewhere is created as a site-specific installation for the Pavilion of Turkey at the 58th Venice Biennale and makes use of elements such as reconfigured objects as well as drawings, video, sound, and performance. It is an investigation into the spaces that we create, and are created for us as a result of collective displacement. The exhibition ruminates on how subjects who find themselves in these spaces react and interact with one another and with their memories. Various elements of sound, reconfigured objects and characters crafted by Eviner evoke the sense of a search for the missing, the erased and that which is elsewhere. A certain aggression and abruptness comes out in the characters everyday behaviour informing their identities in transition. The space itself, in which visitors are invited to walk along the ramps, courtyards and edges, displays permeability, allowing views through cuts and cracks along the walls. The paths punctuated by the objects suggest the way in which memory eases conflicts. Together, the characters, the space and the paths tell a story akin to Hannah Arendt s narrative of struggles in We Refugees.

Soft cover. Condition: New. EVINER, INCI Inci Eviner retrospective: Who's inside you? = Inci Eviner retrospektifi: Icinde kim var? Text: Sara Raza. Curator: Levent Calikoglu. [Exhibition catalogue]. Istanbul: Istanbul Modern, 2016. 4to., 241 p., profusely ills. In Turkish and English. Paperback. New ISBN: 9789756167816 CATALOG: Painting & Sculpture KEYWORDS: Turkish painting History of art This retrospective of Inci Eviner, put together by Istanbul Modern, showcases the artist?s creative process from the 1980s to the present. It allows us to see the development and transformation of her rich search for expression, which extends from drawing, painting, and video to installation, photography, and sculpture. The presentation of Eviner?s artistic output is not strictly chronological, but rather interweaves past and present, and even incorporates the exhibition space itself. Drawing is central to Eviner?s works; she defines the point of departure of her practice as expressions made through lines on paper. She builds and constantly enriches her artistic approach, strolling through a boundless visual language ranging from art historical allegories, iconographies, illustrations, and mythologies to contemporary ideograms and pictograms. Weaving together the violence at the heart of the beautiful, the potential of the repressed, and the unmatched creativity of the unconscious, her works appear simultaneously contemporary and timeless.A pioneering artist who has been influential in the transformation of Turkish contemporary art, Eviner has developed a unique mode of expression regarding the different states of womanhood, gender, and the politics of identity in their collective, political, and sociocultural aspects. Investigating the historical, discursive, and unconscious processes that influence our views of female identity starting in childhood, the artist defines womanhood as a field of limitless possibility that does not fit any single image or concept. Exploring the quotidian gestures of women, Eviner not only questions but challenges the modes of representation judged appropriate for women and the prohibitions that engender these representations.

ISBN: 9783868951820 CATALOG: Painting & Sculpture KEYWORDS: Turkish painting Contemprary Art This is the first major monograph on the intriguing artist Inci Eviner. Eviner has always maintained her unique artistic stance in the practice of contemporary art both in Turkey and beyond. Her practice embraces drawing, objects and video. Prolific, varied and deliberately unclassifiable, Eviner combines the conscious with the unconscious, the psychic with the public, the already-represented with the not-yet-represented. Her works suspend the established deeds of the legalistic or patriarchal society; they drive the established order towards a breaking point, exploring the possibilities of new forms of existence. The individuals struggle for freedom from the patterns of representational systems, from history, from space, ideology, culture and identity as they restrain the subjectivity of humans and in particular of women, has been a problem for Eviner's practice for over twenty years. Eviner has always searched for possibilities of resistance by putting the irrational thought and the unconscious up against the rational one that defines all kinds of power. The publication focuses on all the phases of the artist's prolific career of over 20 years.
