Rough cut pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, creased corners and foxing. Water marks to page edges and corners. Boards have been moderately rub worn, with noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed and spine ends are crushed, with small splits and chips. Large water marks to boards and spine.

Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Very Good ; No jacket. Athenaeum Press. No date, circa 1900. Beaux and Belles of England series. Two volumes, complete. NOT ex-library. Hardcovers have light orange cloth-covered boards with red spine and cover lettering. Spines have Art Nouveau-style floral design in brown and red. Front covers each have a plain brown border. Top edges gilt. Deckle fore edges. Black and white frontispieces with tissue guards. Black and white plates. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends mildly rubbed, with minor fraying at tips. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. Some page still uncut (unopened). Volume 2 has a two-inch light moisture stain at the bottom spine corner. Stain is visible inside on just the first few pages, and on the last twenty or so pages, in bottom corner at gutter. 369 + 358 pages. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.

Two volume set in decorative cloth, lack dust wrappers, probably as issued, no inscriptions, frontespiece and colour plates to each volume, all are present as specified. Boards in very good order with only slight rubbing aalthough the spines are slightly faded, titles are still quite readable. Hinges are tight, no loose pages or turned over page corners, no spotting, page edges rough cut. Overall a very nice condition set. Happy to supply photos on request. This copy contains only 17 of its 40 color plates; 23 are missing. Condition: in addition to the missing plates, the spine ends of volume I are torn & frayed and the inner hinges are weak & starting. The cloth of the spine of volume II is split & the ends are torn & frayed; front inner hinge is split. The bindings of both are shaken. Although the pages and remaining color plates are clean and unmarked, the overall condition in poor.
