Very good, some rubbing to the tips and edges of the spine. Based on a true story, a romance novel set in South Africa during the Boer War. Irene Jewell, a Philadelphian and wife of a Johannesburg banker businessman, was a nurse in during the Boer War, serving in a hospital immediately after the battle at Krugersdorp. There she encountered a gravely ill British soldier, took and interest in him and nursed him back to heath; the younf soldier told her his own story of broken hearted romance and loss of a sweetheart back home. His story became the basis of this novel. Very diificult to find in the orignal edition.
