Each of the distinguished contributors has provided a chapter on their specialism, including dressage, eventing, show jumping, racing, driving, showing, hacking, side saddle, hunting and hunter trials. Illustrated throughout with black/white photographs, woodcuts by Thomas Bewick and his school, and also a six stage diagram on how to tie a stock. Now a Waterstone's bookshop, Simpsons of Piccadilly was reputedly the inspiration behind the hit British TV sit-com "Are you being served?". A lovely period piece.

Small Octavo in 6s. Second edition but the first illustrated edition. 221pp., Illustrated and designed with 47 cuts by Thomas Bewick. Bewick became a popular innovator of the use of wood for illustrations. He carved hard boxwood across the grain to achieve a smooth surface for his fine illustrations. A very nice copy bound in contemporary calf, boards trimmed with a decorative gilt roll, spine with slightly raised bands, black morocco spine label gilt, other compartments gilt decorated, light chipping to spine ends, marbled endpapers, joints and corners rubbed.
