Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Gift quality first edition hardcover in yellow cloth covered boards with red horse/rider illust on cover, red title spine. Tips still sharp, spine ends bumped. Tidy gift ded on head of title page and owner name at head of fep, else crisp, tight and unmarked. 180pp with b/w line drawings throughout. Original, un-clipped dust jacket shows light surface wear and faint soil but is complete and displays well in new mylar. From the day Sue Trent became the owner of a beautiful, cream-colored Arabian at the circus auction, thrills and excitement became part of the everyday life of the Trent family. Whether the horse 'Ballita' is stretching herself prone in the middle of traffic at the blare of a brass band or mischievously dancing on top of Toni's ice cream stall to the tune of the "Skaters' Waltz" or stealing the show with her clever, impromptu tricks at the amateur charity circus, young readers will thrill and delight in this fascinatingly different horse story and worry just as much as Sue does when Ballita disappears. Although events are fictional, this story was penned after a real live horse who appeared with the famous Knie Liberty Horses at the Blackpool Tower Circus in England during the 1951 season.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Gift quality, possible first edition hardcover in yellow cloth covered boards with sharp tips & spine ends. No names, not exlib, 146pp text with un-trimmed fore-edge is well illustrated by Leslie Atkinson. This is the 1952 USA Dodd, Mead & Co., editio. Original, un-clipped color illustrated dust wrapper shows light sunning on spine, color loss at periphery from storage, and one small moisture mark at head of rear gutter, now in new mylar and displays well. Judith M Berrisford was a joint name used by writers Clifford and Mary Lewis, writers of animal books for children. It is, more than likely, Mary Lewis who is pictured as Judith M Berrisford on the jackets' rear flap. DJ front panel shows a steam train rolling down the tracks with two children hanging out a window watching a red stallion in a fenced pasture nearby runs along with it. These two kids are the 'Manners' children who are on their way to a summer holiday on Exmoor and when they spot the half-tame stallion hanging out with the wild ponies and find a monkey's hand-prints in the sand, they knew their summer vacation was to be anything but ordinary.
