A two-page introduction on the history of the collection by Graham Hood precedes sections covering pieces from the following states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, and California. Also includes an extensive section of reproductions of marks, as well as a section on unknown makers and European silver used in America. Nice! Volume I gives a history of the collection, a glossary, a list of silverware with unknown makers, reproductions of marks, and an account of the silverware made in New England, as well as European silver used in America. Volume II gives a glossary, a list of silverware with unknown makers, reproductions of marks, and an account of the silverware made in the Middle Colonies and the South. Founded in 1832, Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest university art museum in America. The Mabel Brady Garvan Collection is the core of its American decorative arts collection and is noteworthy for rare examples of American silver. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original slipcase. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Some bumping to the head, tail and extremities of the slipcase, which is also slightly sunned to the rear. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound, with very bright and clean pages. Fine. book.
