A unique item with many photographs of Japan. A Japanese woman who graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1904 has written of her life subsequently in her native country, where she founded a girl's school. Her experiences before and during the war are fascinating. There are many illustrations and photgraphs of Japanese life which make the book irresistible for those who love Japan.

"All Rights Reserved by the Author October 1939." Published by Kyo Bun Kwan. Japanese silk-wrapped cover, string bound, in cardboard slipcase. Very Good condition, but showing age. The cover title-plate (paper glued to the silk) has a vertical ridge. The book has some occasional soiling: otherwise, clean, no markings, no blemishes or damage. Although there are no library stampings, there is a card-pocket on the final flyleaf. The binding is strong. The slipcase has soiling (appears something splashed on it), Some signs of wear on the open edge, including a 1" split on the top front corner. The book contains many photos and Japanese-style drawings. 230 pages. Packaged using bubble wrap and a sturdy cardboard box. Tracking number provided for no extra cost. This is the memoir of the American trained woman (Bryn Maur) who returned to Japan in 1941, endured WWII, and then became the principal of Keisen Girls' High School and Keisen Girls' Junior College. The book goes in to great depth on her love/hate relationship with the American Army which not only destroyed her country but was there again with great kindness and generosity to rebuild the country. A clean very presentable copy.
