Edmund Pearson (1880-1937), a librarian and writer, wrote this farce (supposedly a reprint of a 1774 publication) which was accepted as real by many publications, including the NY Times and The Nation, later proven to be a hoax. Hardcover in Good-plus to Very Good condition, thin 8vo, unpaginated. Marbled paper-covered boards with paper title label, cream cloth shelf-back with paper label, "facsimile" frontis. Moderate wear and soiling, tips worn, spine label scuffed, scar to front board from removed label (?), some original newspaper reviews laid-in and glued in (now in buffered paper).
