Cloth. Condition: Very Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good +. John Smart (illustrator). First Edition. Montana Spaces: Essays and Photographs in Celebration of Montana, Edited and with an Introduction by William Kittredge, was published by Nick Lyons Books, in cooperation with The Montana Land Reliance, in 1988. This 189-page, 8" X 10", First Edition book(not an ex-library copy) is in such crisp, like-new condition it had to be rated highly, despite the lonely presence of a white price sticker, 1/2" X 3/4", in the upper right corner of the front loose end page(which I have not attempted to remove). The dust jacket, too, is in overall wonderful shape, with its only weakness being some modest shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine. From front inside jacket flap, "Thomas McGuane, Wallace Stegner, David Quammen, Gretel Ehrlich, Beth Ferris, Tim Cahill, William Hjortsberg, Alston Chase, and a dozen other of America's finest writers have contributed original essays to this remarkable volume, to celebrate Montana. Montana Spaces is a full and memorable portrait of a special place and its very special people--a place where wildness and small-town America collide, a place with a special, intense history and a present that attracts and holds some of America's most interesting people--writers, artists, filmmakers, teachers, and sportsmen(for the fishing and hunting in Montana are superb). In addition to the memorable essays--all written especially for [this volume]--there is a unique 32-page portfolio of photographs(reproduced in duotone, on the highest quality paper) by John Smart that magnificently captures the great physical spaces of the Montana landscape and the inner world of the Montana mind." Some of the other writers who contributed to this homage to Montana are Glenn Law, Ellen Meloy, Beth Ferris, Scott Hibbard, Patricia Dawson, and Robert Sims Reid. NOTE: The wood engravings which serve as chapter Decorations are the very able work of Emma Joy Dana. Thank you very much!!.
