Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1941 first edition, Philatelic Research Laboratories, Inc. (New York), 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches tall aqua faux leather hardcover, gilt lettering to spine, green stiff wraps bound in, copiously illustrated with photographs of philatelic rarities, 241 pp. Very slight soiling and rubbing to covers, with slight bumping to the lower tips. Inside, very slight staining to lower margin of front cover bound in. Otherwise, a very good to near fine copy - clean, bright and unmarked. Articles on Edward S. Knapp Collection also laid in. ~CC~ [2.5P] Edward Spring Knapp (1879-1940) was a noted collector of U.S. and Confederate postage stamps and an authority on postal history. His specialties were posted hotel covers and Confederate stamps. This work documents some of Knapp's collection offered for sale the year after his death.

Illustrated with b&w photographs. 8" x 10.5". 215 pp. Tan cloth, paper spine label, ink owner inscription from East Islip, dated 1941 and mark of bookplate removal on the endpaper, covers darkened. A history of the Knapp family, of Bayshore, Long Island, New York. 44 pages of the book "Pertains mainly to shooting" in the 1870s and 1890s, including shooting on Long Island for snipe, duck, geese, brant, grouse, quail, woodcock, dove, live pigeon shooting at Westminster Kennel Club, shooting prairie chicken in Iowa in the 1880s, a three page account of a trout caught by the author, four pages on the Southside Sportsman's Club, their hatchery and the guide Josh Verity, who "specialized on trout fishing and snipe shooting", etc. Scarce. Very good.
