September 1949 in Grundlsee, Steiermark) war ein österreichischer Sch…riftsteller. . Ab 1894 war er Offizier (Oberstleutnant) der k.u.k. Armee und veröffentlichte bereits in dieser Zeit satirische Texte. Im Ersten Weltkrieg geriet er im November 1914 in russische Gefangenschaft. 1918 konnte er fliehen. Durch die Kriegsgefangenschaft in Ostsibirien zum Pazifisten geworden, quittierte Kreutz nach seiner Rückkehr in die Heimat 1920 den Dienst als Offizier und beschäftigte sich als freischaffender Schriftsteller der Verbreitung seiner Vision einer idealen menschlichen Gesellschaft ("Der neue Mensch", 1920). Seiner 1933 im P.E.N.-Club eingebrachten Resolution gegen die nationalsozialistische Gewaltherrschaft folgte ein Publikationsverbot in Deutschland und nach dem Anschluss 1938 in Österreich; 1944 wurde er für fünf Monate inhaftiert. Kreutz schrieb für die satirische Wochenschrift Die Muskete und war nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg für Henri Barbusses Friedensbewegung Clarté aktiv. In unserem Land, das Einzelgänger ohne Anlehnung, ohne "Freunderlmassage", seit je und eh mit gemütlichem Mißtrauen beargwöhnt, hat es einmal eine sogenannte Backhendelzeit gege-ben. Damals, im Vormärz, sorgte ein Landesvater im Verein mit Polizei und Militär für die Erhaltung einer Untertanengeistigkeit, die in der sittlichen Forderung gipfelte, daß Ruhe die erste Bürgerpflicht sei. Ruhe, das heißt, animalisches Desinteressement an der Unzufriedenheit wirrer Köpfe, die weiter dachten als der Polizeirapport vorsah. Zu diesem Behufe wurde Knebelung jeglicher freien Meinungsäußerung wichtigste Regierungsmaxime. Der Geist blieb, soweit er sich nicht damit begnügte, durch harmlose Zwerchfellerschütterung zur geregelten Verdauung beizutragen oder durch Zauber- und Ritterpossen einfältig zu ergötzen, - der Geist blieb unter das Schwert der Zensur gestellt. Seine Vertreiber vertrieb man in die Kasematten des Spielbergs und andere Stätten zu beschaulicher Einkehr. Es war opportun geworden, Flammenzeichen am Zeithorizont mit dem Rotstift auszulöschen. Und es war offiziell gut so. Der Bürger lebte, trächtig von der Fülle des "oben" gnädigst Verstatteten, als "Backhendelfriedhof" dahin, emsig bedacht, sich ja nicht nach etwas Anstößigem zu verschauen.
