This officer with the USAAF's 364th Bomb Squadron was flying his B-17 Flying Fortress over Nazi-controlled Europe when it was attacked and disabled, whereupon he ordered his crew to parachute to safety while he managed to fly the craft with two crew too injured to parachute to a crash landing in friendly territory -- for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Heavy stock printed "Medal of Honor Recipient" card, 6" X 4", with his printed full name and rank and the date of his heroic act ("Over Europe / February 20, 1944"). Above his name, Lawley signs large and bold in pencil. Fine. This attractive card is accompanied by a heavy stock 8½" X 13½" unsigned reproduction of aviation artist J.G. Keck's head-and-shoulders portrait of a young Lawley in uniform. Fine. A superb pair.
