He was one of the first scientists to suggest that modern populations might contain an inherited record of human beings. He added a new level to the study of demographics by applying an analysis of blood groups to research. Graduating from Pavia in 1944, Cavalli-Sforza studied at Cambridge before moving to Stanford in 1970. He is currently Professor Emeritus of the School of Medicine, Stanford. Cavalli-Sforza's list of awards include: the Kistler Prize for 2002, & the Balzan Prize for the Science of human Origins (1999).
